OLD CITY MODEL UNITED
NATIONS CONFERENCE

Welcome to OCMUNC XVII

December 6th-8th, 2019

Details

OCMUNC is an annual conference fit for both beginning and advanced delegates. We stress that delegates read through the rules and requirements of OCMUNC, as well as the resources provided to optimize their conference experience. We hope to see you in November!

Councils

Delegates will represent a nation to their council to debate an issue of international importance from that nation’s perspective. Then delegates will write resolutions on the given topics. These resolutions will aim to solve the issue with scope and focus, while satisfying the wants and needs of the majority of member states of any given council.

Past Conferences

Beginning in 2002, OCMUNC has been occuring annually. Since the beginning, it has changed a lot with OCMUNC only starting with security councils and now having Security Council, Human Rights Council, OPCW, and Historical Crisis Council and possibly even more.

Registration for OCMUNC XVII is now open.

We would like to invite your MUN to take part in the 17th Annual Old City Model UN Conference! OCMUNC XVII will be held in the nation’s oldest city, beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. OCMUNC XVII will be hosting Security Council, Historical Crisis Council, British House of Commons, and Human Rights Council. Our tradition of smaller councils offers a greater opportunity for delegates to actively participate in both formal and informal discussion as well as provide an excellent opportunity for delegates new to Model UN to learn procedure and research skills. At the same time, OCMUNC affords veteran delegates the chance to improve their debate and discussion skills prior to attending larger Model UN conferences in the spring.

POSITION PAPERS:

Many conferences require that each delegation submit a position paper, which is an essay detailing your country’s policies on the topics being discussed in your committee.

Writing a position paper will help you organize your ideas so that you can share your country’s position with the rest of the committee.

While position papers are not required for OCMUNC, there will be an award available for the delegates who submit the best two position papers in the conference. Delegates can choose which topic to submit a paper for. Position papers must be submitted to the dais in the first session to be considered for this award.

The Saint Augustine Nights of Lights is an extended event where lights are put up all around the city and businesses stay up later. This event lasts all during the conference.

Ghost Tours of Saint Augustine

All of the stories are researched through records from historical libraries, church documents, personal diaries and personal interview. Nothing is made up, and no artificial special effects are used during the tour. You can chose from a walking, riding, or sailing ghost tour.

Old Town Trolley Tours of Saint Augustine

Old Town Trolley Tours of St. Augustine covers the entire city from the Colonial Spanish Quarter and the Fountain of Youth to San Sebastian Winery, Lightner Museum, Castillo de San Marcos and all points in between.

Phone: 904-829-3800

Beaches

Saint Augustine is surrounded by many beaches such as Saint Augustine Beach, Vilano Beach, and Crescent Beach. The water might be cold during the conference, but you can still enjoy the view of the ocean.
